I don't get the internet much at all in general any more, but yesterday in the angry instagram comments section on polyvore's announcement set I discovered this and I just had no idea this other weird subculture of making sets specifically for instagram, in a very specific style, existed. And, I dunno, it just made me feel like the polyvore I loved had been gone long before this. Is anyone else feeling, in a weird weird way, this tiny tinge of relief or otherwise was anyone starting to feel disconnected from the site even when it was still there?
PS: They are called sets, kids.
I had the same reaction when I recently saw sets on insta as "moodboards"...but at the same time, 1) it made me proud of poly for having a new generation (that is just what i'm going to call these "kids" haha) of users who have their own creative reasons for using the site and 2) it made me happy to think poly was becoming more and more a CREATIVE space...
BOY WAS I WRONG lmao (not bitter at all) but yeah to see it turned into an online retailer...i mean yes it always WAS that but i really thought the "polyfam" would finally acknowledge the site's artistic potentials, idk idk
so to answer you question: yes, i too felt disconnected from the site but i think it was a feeling of disconnect from the site's platform...i mean as a writer on poly i ignored so much of their services/contests and stuff. i did only ever buy one item using them (a bag? that i did love?) so i get their capitalist pig reasons for ditching us lmfao. even though so many of my polypals and i have always come and gone in terms of activity, we have been loyal to the site for years and years. i really had high hopes for some future changes for US.
(i am such a dreamer)
